Bio
Mila has been at UW-Madison for 12 years and has been the primary web developer for their department’s 10+ websites since then.
They also oversee the department’s web operations, which hosts more than 20 sites. Mila is responsible for making sure the organization is meeting university web policies and accessibility standards.
Mila’s team is small and often faces budget constraints for new projects and initiatives, so they frequently feel stretched thin.
Goals
- Wants accessible design components so their department doesn’t have to maintain their own, and to receive critical updates (font changes, improvements, etc)
- Find more direction on campus around web best practices.
Frustrations
- Has to maintain the departments website guidelines to help users within the department follow best practices.
- Struggles to find time to read up on current design, dev, and accessibility.
- Wishes they didn’t have to maintain site infrastructure, but the department would have less flexibility moving to a centralized service.
"I'm the primary web developer, webmaster, web designer, and content strategist for my team. It's a lot...it's too much."
