Corrie has worked at UW—Madison for 6 years and is the communications specialist for many different groups within a large division.
She helps these groups develop content for their websites in order to tell compelling stories and educate the community the about the research they do.
Even though Corrie’s job doesn’t explicitly state website maintenance or management, she is the only person who does this work within the groups she helps. It’s become a primary responsibility over the years.
Because her speciality is content, Corrie often struggles with what a “good page” should look like, and communicating certain design decisions to leadership.
Goals
- Cut down time spent on page layout design to focus more on content needs.
- Figure out ways to help groups take ownership of their sites so she’s not the only person.
- Wants to find more useful strategies for getting buy-in from stakeholders around design and content decisions.
Frustrations
- Difficult to find examples of good website and content design at the university.
- Hard to prioritize time because she does “all the things” for each website that she manages.
- Wishes she had more best practice guidance from the university around how to design websites that provide good user experiences.
"I just wish there was always someone (who knows more than me) over my shoulder who could show me what good page design looks like. I'm at the point where I feel like I can do some of it myself, but it really helps to have an initial example or guidance."
