Bio
Adam has worked at UW—Madison for 2 years for a small department, and manages the group’s various administrative activities and processes.
In addition to his primary job responsibilities, Adam is also the main person for his department’s website. His group relies on him for updates to content, design, tracking analytics, and making general improvements to the site.
At his previous job, Adam had access to a large web team with experienced content and design professionals. So here at UW—Madison, he often feels overwhelmed and out of his comfort zone doing this work.
Goals
- Learn more about website best practices at UW—Madison to feel confident in the decisions he makes.
- Find help elsewhere on campus to reduce the amount of time spent on website work.
Frustrations
- Website can be time consuming and considered “other duties as assigned.”
- Doesn’t feel confident in his design and content creation skills
- Department is grant funded so there’s limited budget to hire additional staff.
- Relies on part-time graduate student for more technical website work, but their availability can be unpredictable.
"I don't have formal training in managing or building websites, but other than a part-time graduate student, I'm the only person who has time to do this work. My student employee helps, but I don't want to overwhelm them either."
